One of my favorite parts of this year has been being a dorm prefect. I’m in an upper school dorm, which includes Fourth, Fifth, and other Sixth Formers.
Every night we gather on the couches in the common room after a night of studying for “check-in.” Even though we are tired, the thrill of being together—and of sharing a snack from our dorm head, Dr. Chung—sparks conversation. After only about a month of school, I have developed secret handshakes with kids I had never met before this year. We have formed inside jokes and traditions. For example, the Fourth Formers make me do five push ups for every minute I’m late! And, at the end of check-in, we all moo like cows in a wave (our dorm theme is Ben and Jerry’s). You’d think that would get old, but it hasn’t! Most of all, the dorm is a small, intimate community within the larger community of the Circle. We know that we will always smile and wave when we see each other around campus.
